Taxi and remise services are very reliable, reason why it’s not necessary to go to the street to catch one. Anyways, if you prefer going by bus, you just have to go to Artigas Boulevard and take one. The time estimated goes from 10 minutes by taxi to 15 minutes by bus. It’s important to remember Tres Cruces is a safe station, where you can arrive late at night without any problem.

There are three options:
• Taking a local bus (180, 187 or 188) whose destiny must be either “Ciudad Vieja”, “Ciudadela” or “Aduana”. The bus stop is in front of Tres Cruces. Once you catch one, you have to get off in 18 de Julio Avenue and Santiago de Chile, where you will see the City Council.
Buquebus has two ports in Uruguay: one in Montevideo and one in Colonia.

• You can take and “interdepartamental” bus that will leave you at the Centre, precisely in Uruguay and Yaguarón streets, just five blocks away from Red Hostel Montevideo. The ticket costs 1 dollar, much cheaper than taking a taxi, which costs 21 dollars.

It’s the cheapest company. It has new ships to travel from El Tigre to Carmelo, a very attractive place to spend the day.
If you’re travelling at night, you can sleep in most of the buses. Duties are in charge of the company, so you don’t have to get off until you arrive to Montevideo, unless you want to buy something at the Free-shop.
Both El Tigre and Carmelo deserve your attention for some hours, so you can gaze at the streets boarding Río de la Plata. The ship travel crosses Delta del Tigre, which has a big amount of islands and islets. Ideal for having a cold beer on the deck under the sun!
The only option is to take a bus. The trip takes about 6 hours. Buses from Colonia depart with a frequency of one per hour, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
